Remove

items from

a photo

The instructions can

be found on the right

or use the video clip

The photo below is OK but there are a number of items that distract from the focal point:

  • there is a trash can in her line of view,

  • and there is a pole sticking out of her head.

Right click over the following photo and save it to your My Pictures Folder and then open this photograph in Photoshop Elements:

So the easiest thing to do is remove the bin. For this one, since it’s mostly surrounded by the grass, use the  clone stamp.

You will need to select the clone area.  Hold down the "Alt" key and select a part of the grass which has no objects.  Now start painting over the trash can. Do lots of short strokes because if you mess up, you can undo just that step (ie CTRL + Z) and do not have to start again from the beginning.

When you have removed the part of the bin surrounded by grass, you will be left with a more difficult area on top that is near the trees and houses. Take some creative license and just try to blend the background, not worry about making it look like the real thing.  You will have to re-select a clone area and adjust the brush size.

Next take the pole out of the girls head. This is messy so work in very small chunks, in a very zoomed in area.

The first step is to select the area in front of the white van. Then start cloning in the white from the other part of the van.

Continue to work on small sections of the pole re-cloning with a small brush size.

Continue with the car window:

After you get the pole removed from the SUV, you've done with the hard part. When you move in or zoom out, the photo will look pretty good. You can get away with this because there is a busy background with a lot of smaller objects going on.
