Another enrichment activity is the use of a graphics tablet to produce drawings.
Below are 2 ways that a graphics program, for example photoshop CS4, can be used to create cartoons with the aid of a graphics tablet.
Method 1:
Trace layering - Open a photograph in a graphics program, say photoshop:
1. Add a new transparent layer on top of it.
2. Make sure the new layer is always selected.
3. Select the paint brush tool with a very small size.
4. Trace your picture.
5. Once finihsed, choose an appropriate colour.
6. Use the bucket tool and fill in the shapes.
7. If it floods out, use undo and continue tracing until there are no leakage points.
On the left you can see an example of some of the best from students in year 7 at my school (click to enlarge). This was also printed onto canvas for the classroom!
Method 2:
I came across this excellent method for creating similar drawings except that the pen tool is used which although is more time consuming gives crisp results
